site.btaEU Employment Rate Hits Record High in 2025
The European Union employment rate hit a record 76.1% in 2025, Eurostat data published on Friday showed.
A total of 197.7 million people aged 20 to 64 were in work last year, the highest level since comparable records began in 2009. The figure rose by 0.3 percentage points from 2024 and by 0.8 percentage points from 2023.
Among European Union countries, the highest employment rates were recorded in Malta, at 83.6%, the Netherlands, at 83.4%, and Czechia, at 82.9%. The lowest were in Italy, at 67.6%, Romania, at 69.0%, and Greece, at 71.0%.
In Bulgaria, the employment rate reached 77% in 2025, also the country’s highest level since 2009.
The data also showed that in 2025, in all member states except Lithuania, the employment rate for men was higher than that for women.
