Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov expressed support for reducing the administrative burden on businesses, but not at the expense of workers’ rights and working conditions. He took part in a EU Council meeting on Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs in Brussels on Monday, his ministry reported.

The agenda focused on streamlining and the implementation of regulations in the field of employment and social policy. The European Commission has set a goal to reduce the administrative burden by at least 25% for all companies and by 35% for small and medium-sized enterprises, which identify regulatory obstacles as their biggest challenge.

“It is essential that we combine modern, predictable, and worker-friendly rules with an environment that enables businesses to innovate and develop. Only in this way will we have a Union that is more resilient and better prepared for the challenges ahead,” Minister Gutsanov said.

In his remarks, Minister Gutsanov stressed the impact of administrative burdens on small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the need to work in close communication with them. He called for steps to eliminate outdated or overlapping1 regulations, as well as for greater technical and financial support for developing one-stop digital services.

During the Council meeting, issues related to housing accessibility policy and ensuring the rights and working conditions of posted workers were also discussed.

Minister Gutsanov also took part in a working meeting of the ministers from the Party of European Socialists, where they discussed joint initiatives within the work of the European institutions.
