Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov thanked on Wednesday the new class of scholarship recipients under the EXPLORER programme of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) for their choice to stay in Bulgaria and contribute to the development of modern technologies. The official ceremony took place in the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the development of advanced technologies, artificial intelligence and robotics is often perceived with mixed feelings by people outside the field. “There are fears, but also many hopes. You are the ones who can dispel the fears and inspire confidence that the future of humanity will be much brighter, more meaningful and prosperous thanks to new technologies,” Zhelyazkov told the scholars, emphasizing that state support is essential.
“The commitment that rests on your shoulders is much greater than the efforts we are obliged to invest in your development. What we sow today is a small seed of everything we will reap, thanks to your work and talent,” the Prime Minister added.
The EXPLORER programme was created jointly with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia. Its aim is to retain outstanding talents in computer science and mathematics in Bulgaria. The scholarship provides recipients with a monthly grant of BGN 2,000, allowing them to focus on their studies at FMI and to develop skills through innovative research projects at INSAIT.
