site.btaSoprano Krassimira Stoyanova Receives Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers Honour

Opera prima Krassimira Stoyanova received the Crystal Necklace award from the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers. The award was presented to her by the organization’s deputy chairperson, Dr. Rositsa Boyadzhieva, following the premiere of Antonin Dvorak’s opera Rusalka at the 16th edition of the Opera in the Summer Theater festival in Varna, in recognition of her contribution to promoting Bulgarian art on the world stage.

The production of Rusalka by the Varna Opera is the first ever staged in Bulgaria. The conductor is maestro Pavel Balev. The director is Srebrina Sokolova, with set design by Petko Tanchev, costumes by Asya Stoimenova, and choreography by Nadya Dimokova.

According to conductor Pavel Balev, the opera will remain part of the Varna Opera House’s repertoire during the upcoming season.

The libretto of Rusalka was written by renowned Czech playwright and theater director Jaroslav Kvapil. Dvorak completed the entire opera score in the short period between April and November 1900. He described it as a "lyrical fairy tale about the tragedy of a water nymph in love with a human being." The opera is a quintessential example of late Romanticism. With its successful premiere on March 31, 1901, in Prague, Rusalka secured a lasting place in the world’s musical heritage.

Krassimira Stoyanova is a Kammersangerin of the Vienna State Opera and has performed at the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Royal Albert Hall in London, La Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper, and other prestigious theaters. Her portrayal of Rusalka in Dvorak’s opera has earned her worldwide acclaim, with critics describing her as the ideal choice for the role.
