Bulgarian artist Valery Mihalkov, a Daytime Emmy Award winner for his work on the animated series Sagwa, has passed away, his family said.
Mihalkov was born on May 7, 1960, in Sofia, and graduated from the National Academy of Art with a degree in painting. He moved to Canada in 1990 and became a lecturer at Concordia University in Montreal in 1997, teaching stage design, character design, perspective, anatomy, and composition.
In 2002, Mihalkov was awarded a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Individual in Animation for his contributions to Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat, a children’s animated TV series that gained popularity across the United States, Canada, China, and beyond.
Mihalkov appeared in numerous television and film productions and was also active as a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and poster designer.
