The graphic display "Female Images" from the collection of Prof. Dr. Chavdar Slavov will be shown in Sofia's "Vaska Emanouilova" Gallery from March 28 to April 21. The exhibition includes about 40 works executed in various techniques of graphic art - engraving, lithography, etching, aquatint, mezzotint, drypoint, serigraphy, the organizers say.

The gallery recalls that ten years ago the Sofia City Art Gallery for the first time presented selected works from the graphic collection of Prof. Chavdar Slavov, which comprises over 200 works by printmakers - from artists who have become classics to contemporary artists. "His collection is also one of the largest private collections of contemporary Bulgarian graphic art. It includes works by well-known artists, many of whom are represented by their most significant achievements, as well as rare examples and limited editions. Since then, the mission of prof. Slavov to promote the art of printmaking has not stopped," they say.

The current exhibition presents part of this collection through the image of the woman, say the organizers. "We discover her between nature and imagination as a muse, a model, a guardian, a mother, a totem. Her face is also present in the portrait genre.

She is an exotic princess or maiden, a Bulgarian woman, or a collage of characters. There is something in common in these images, and that is the feeling of timelessness. An image that has become eternal," they add.

Among the presented artists are printmakers of different generations - Zlatka Dubova, Karl Yordanov, Rumen Skorchev, Borislav Stoev and Dimitar Kazakov - Neron. Younger printmakers such as Veselin Damyanov - VES are also shown.

For more than 40 years, Prof. Dr. Slavov has dedicated himself to his passion for black and white art. He defines himself as an "art connoisseur" and has taken it as his mission to promote Bulgarian graphic art both at home and around the world through his travels and participation in a large number of international congresses and medical forums related to his profession.
