site.btaBulgaria Issues Postage Stamps Dedicated to Thracian Heritage
Postage stamps with images of four of the most significant artifacts of Bulgaria's ancient Thracian heritage were presented by caretaker Transport and Communications Minister Korman Ismailov, National Archaeological Institute with Museum Director Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov and the project's artist Tahsin Ahmed at an official ceremony here on Tuesday.
The series depicts four Thracian artifacts discovered in Bulgaria: the Golden Mask of Teres, a gold ring discovered in Ezerovo, a horse harness from the village of Sveshtari, and a breastplate from the Mezek Thracian tomb.
Ismailov said that Thracian heritage stamps are of great interest to collectors. He gave the 2016 edition of ancient Thracian coins as an example.
The Minister reported that these are the first stamps issued with variable print runs and denominations in euro. A block sheet of four stamps with a print run of 1,000 copies will be issued for collectors.
Popov added that it is especially important for institutions to cooperate in order to popularize Bulgaria's rich cultural and historic heritage.
Ahmed expressed confidence that the stamps will become a symbol of Bulgaria around the world.
