Education Minister Krasimir Valchev opened an exhibition dedicated to Bulgarian students who have won medals at international, European, Balkan and youth Olympiads, on the Lovers’ Bridge in Sofia on Wednesday. The event is being held for the third consecutive year and is part of the My Awakeners project.

“You give us reason to be proud, you give us hope for the future,” the Minister said. He stressed that an increasing share of the top-performing students are choosing to pursue their education in Bulgaria – mainly at Sofia University, but not only there.

Association of the Olympic Teams in Natural Sciences Board Member Elena Marinova said that “these children do not merely solve problems – they prove that Bulgarian education can produce discoverers.” She noted that half of the current leaders of the national teams are former Olympians. “This is proof of the passing of the baton and giving back to society,” Marinova said.

The exhibition presents the faces and achievements of 97 young Bulgarians who brought the country 15 gold, 40 silver and 42 bronze medals in 2025.

The event was attended by students who have taken part in various Olympiads around the world, their mentors and former Olympians, as well as BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.
