“Be awake. Be brave. Be the people who lead toward something better,” Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said in his address on Facebook marking the National Awakeners' Day on Saturday.

He said he had the honour this week to thank those who shape the spirit of the capital - teachers, artists, scientists, and people of knowledge and culture.

“Each of us is a modern awakener,” Terziev said, expressing confidence that more people will join in rekindling society’s sense of unity and purpose. “Let us awaken to how beautiful our city and country are, to the opportunities before us, and work together to give our children more reasons to stay here and make us part of their success,” the Mayor added.
