A storage facility containing over ten kilograms of marijuana and approximately four kilograms of synthetic drugs, including cocaine, has been discovered in Sofia, Interior Ministry's Sofia Directorate Director Lyubomir Nikolov said at a press briefing here on Thursday. According to the Directorate's data, the seized quantity of drugs can be divided into over 100,000 doses, worth around BGN 1 million on the market.

The facility was located in an apartment building in Sofia's Reduta neighbourhood. During the search, approximately BGN 100,000 in various currencies were also found. Recently, another storage facility was discovered containing two kilograms of cannabis and one kilogram of cocaine. Nikolov explained that in these storage facilities, the main dealers stock up on drugs and then distribute them throughout the country via encrypted Telegram groups.

A specialized police operation targeting drug trafficking has been underway since Monday, resulting in the arrest of 64 people, seven of whom have been reported to the Sofia City Prosecution Office for drug distribution. Nikolov noted that the main priority of the operation is to reduce drug distribution around schools and drinking establishments. He added that work is also being done on dismantling drug-related criminal networks.
