site.btaCity Leaders of Ivaylovgrad, Tundzha, Yambol Named Mayor of 2025


The mayors Diyana Ovcharova (Ivaylovgrad), Stancho Stavrev (Tundzha) and Valentin Revanski (Yambol) won the 2025 Mayor of the Year grand awards in the categories for small, medium-sized and large municipalities respectively. The awards were presented on Tuesday by Vice President Iliana Iotova at a ceremony in Sofia.
Iotova expressed the presidency’s respect for local government, describing the awards as a mark of high recognition for the work of municipal leaders and a strong motivation for their future policies and initiatives. She noted that the Mayor of the Year competition is particularly valuable as it reflects citizens’ appreciation for the level of government closest to them.
The national online poll was held for the 13th consecutive year across seven categories. All 265 municipal mayors in Bulgaria took part except for Varna Municipality, due to charges brought against its mayor, and Elin Pelin Municipality, which opted out of the competition, the organizers said.
In the Citizens’ Mayor category, the awards went to Emanuil Manolov (Avren), Angel Djorgov (Samokov) and Hristo Grudev (Asenovgrad). The certificates were presented by National Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva.
In the Urban Environment category, the winners were Penyo Nenov (Byala, Varna Region), Nikolay Dimitrov (Nessebar) and Valentin Revanski (Yambol). Their certificates were presented by Regional Development Minister Ivan Ivanov, who called for stronger communication between central and local authorities.
The Investment and Growth category was won by Deyan Ivanov (Beloslav), Stancho Stavrev (Tundzha) and Zhivko Todorov (Stara Zagora), who received their certificates from Deputy Economy Minister Doncho Barbalov.
In the Smart City category, awards went to Ivaylo Kracholov (Chirpan), Darin Dimitrov (Targovishte) and Zhivko Todorov (Stara Zagora). The certificates were presented by Vivacom CEO Asen Velikov.
In the Tourism and Culture category, the winners were Marin Kirov (Tsarevo), Donka Mihaylova (Troyan) and Daniel Panov (Veliko Tarnovo). The awards were presented by Milen Christov, Electrohold.
In the Sports and Youth Policies category, Vladimir Aleksandrov (Etropole), Nikolay Dimitrov (Nessebar) and Stanislav Dechev (Haskovo) were recognized. Their certificates were presented by National Sports Academy Rector Prof. Krasimir Petkov.
