The Vratsa Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert titled “Energies” on November 14, guest conductor Sandra Ragusa told reporters. The event is part of the Virtuosos of the Keys series.
The programme includes Antonin Dvorak’s Carnival Overture, Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor, Op. 20 – to be performed for the first time in Vratza – and Aaron Copland’s suite Four Dance Episodes from the ballet Rodeo. The soloist is Brazilian-born pianist Sonia Rubinsky, a recipient of a Latin Grammy Award.
Ragusa said the orchestra’s musicians respond well to her approach to music-making. After the concert, she will return to Washington, D.C., to conduct the Montgomery Philharmonic.
Ragusa said she is motivated by the wish to make music engaging and to stay close to the composer’s intent. Her recent performances include appearances with the Belgrade Philharmonic, Helsinki Radio Symphony, Lithuanian National Symphony, Berlin Sinfonietta, Sofia Philharmonic, and Krakow Philharmonic.
