Bulgaria Records Largest Drop in Industrial Production in EU in September Y/Y - Eurostat

Bulgaria remains the European Union country with the most significant annual decline in industrial production for the fourth consecutive month in September. The output of Bulgarian industrial producers dropped by 5.6 % in September of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the latest provisional data of Eurostat, published Thursday on its website.

Bulgaria also recorded the highest annual decline in industrial production among EU countries in June, July and August, when it decreased by 8.3 %, 8.4 % and 9.0 % respectively, according to a check in the database of the European statistical office.

Nevertheless, in September — relative to August this year — Bulgarian industry expanded at a monthly rate of 3.3 % — the highest since December 2023.

Industrial production in September compared with August rose by 0.8 % in the European Union and by 0.2 % in the euro-area, according to seasonally-adjusted data from Eurostat.

By comparison, industrial production in August had fallen by 0.9 % in the EU and by 1.1 % in the euro-area.

Industrial production in September this year compared with the same month in 2024 rose by 2.0 % in the EU and by 1.2 % in the euro-area.

Industrial production in September compared with August 2025 in the EU increased for intermediate goods by 0.4 %, for energy by 0.9 %, for capital goods by 0.4 %, for durable consumer goods by 0.1 % and decreased for non-durable consumer goods by 0.4 %.

Industrial production in the euro-area in September 2025 on a monthly basis increased for intermediate goods by 0.3 %, for energy by 1.2 %, for capital goods by 0.3 % and decreased for durable consumer goods by 0.5 % and for non-durable consumer goods by 2.6 %.

The largest monthly increases were recorded by Denmark (+7.2 %), Sweden (+5.3 %) and Greece (+4.8 %). Ireland (−9.4 %), Luxembourg (−5.7 %) and Malta (−1.7 %) recorded the largest monthly declines in industrial production.

Industrial production in September 2025 compared with the same month of 2024 in the EU increased for intermediate goods by 0.6 %, for energy by 1.2 %, for capital goods by 1.7 %, for non-durable consumer goods by 4.5 % and decreased for durable consumer goods by 1.5 %.

Industrial production in September 2025 in the euro-area on a yearly basis increased for intermediate goods by 0.5 %, for energy by 2.1 %, for capital goods by 1.1 %, for non-durable consumer goods by 2.2 % and decreased for durable consumer goods by 3.0 %.

The largest annual increases in industrial production in September were recorded by Sweden (+14.7 %), Denmark (+9.5 %) and Greece (+7.1 %).
