Three Georgian nationals have been identified, charged and detained in connection with a series of burglaries in Sofia, Prosecutor Ivan Dimitrov of the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Evidence has been collected for five offences committed in two boroughs of Sofia, where flats were broken into in the absence of the occupants. The burglaries occurred both during the day and at night between May and September 2025, Dimitrov said.

A search of the suspects’ hostel room found gold and silver jewellery, cash in BGN and EUR, and tools for unlocking locks, the prosecutor said.

Deputy Director of the 5th Regional Police Directorate Iliya Kuzmanov described the three as serious, professionally trained criminals who changed their residence and areas of operation every month. The burglaries took no more than five minutes each, after prior surveillance of the targeted addresses, he said.

The value of the stolen property exceeds BGN 20,000 and may rise after expert examination of the seized jewellery. The investigation is ongoing, and more offences are expected to be linked to the suspects. Prosecutor Dimitrov said the charges carry a sentence of one to ten years' imprisonment.
