Technical crews have begun removing 22 tank cars from a freight train of 34 cars and two locomotives that derailed early Friday morning near the village of Pyasachevo, the Ministry of Transport and Communications reported. At the same time, fire-damaged tank cars are also being cleared from the site.
Eleven diesel tank cars were reported as derailing in the incident.
Institutions acted with exceptional professionalism and coordination, which prevented the fire near Pyasachevo from spreading, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov said earlier in the day from the scene of the incident.
He emphasized that at no point was there any danger to residents of nearby settlements.
The incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities, including the National Board for Investigation of Accidents in Air, Water, and Railway Transport.
