site.btaWildfire in Sungurlare Municipality Spreads Again Due to Changing Winds

The fire in the Sungurlare area has flared up again due to changes in wind direction and speed, the press office of the Sungurlare Municipality said on Sunday. The flames are moving toward the village of Skala, where efforts have been redirected, using agricultural machinery, tractors with harrows, to cut through the fields and stop the fire’s advance.
Sungurlare Mayor Dimitar Gavazov is on site, overseeing the work of local farmers whose equipment is being used in hopes of blocking the fire’s path and preventing it from reaching the village. The administration’s efforts are currently focused there to react as quickly as possible if evacuation of Skala’s residents becomes necessary.
At present, nine firefighting teams from Burgas, Karnobat, and Tsarevo, two helicopters, two Swedish planes, local farmers with machinery, and volunteers continue to battle the blaze.
Firefighters are already very tired after more than 48 hours of continuous work, but efforts persist to bring the fire under control, the municipal press office added.
