Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev conferred with Sweden’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Katarina Rangnitt, for a farewell meeting, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

Georgiev expressed his appreciation for the ambassador’s efforts in strengthening bilateral cooperation during her mandate. He also thanked the Swedish government for providing specialized aircraft that assisted in extinguishing wildfires in Bulgaria.

The two officials discussed the active collaboration between Bulgaria and Sweden within the frameworks of the European Union and NATO, emphasizing their shared commitment to European security and resilience in the face of global challenges. They reaffirmed common positions on key issues such as continued support for Ukraine, security in the Black Sea region, and the European integration of the Western Balkan countries.

The meeting also highlighted the strong partnership between the two nations in areas including trade and economy, cultural exchange, and education.

Rangnitt expressed her gratitude for the productive cooperation with the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the course of her tenure. Both sides voiced confidence that the two countries would continue to develop their friendly relations based on mutual trust and shared values.

Earlier in the day, Rangnitt conferred with Bulgaria’s Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov.
