А fire broke out Saturday afternoon in the village of Dabova Mahala (Northwest Bulgaria), burning down 19 houses, a dairy farm with a total area of about 400 square meters, part of a disused school, 250 bales of hay, and 500 decares of dry grass and bushes, said Interior Ministry's Montana Regional Directorate on Sunday.
Thanks to the intervention of firefighters, 32 houses in Dabova Mahala and the neighboring village of Kiselevo, a residential building on the dairy farm, and several corn fields in the area of the two villages were saved.
No people were injured in the fire, and all animals from the barns and fields in the area were saved. Of the houses destroyed in the fire, 18 were uninhabited and one was inhabited. The fire started in dry grass and, due to the high temperature at the time - around 43C - quickly spread to the houses. It was extinguished over several hours by firefighting teams from Montana, Vidin, Lom, Brusartsi, and the village of Gavril Genovo.
A total of 10 fires raged in the Montana Region on Saturday - the hottest day since the beginning of the year. Thanks to the intervention of firefighters from the region, houses, farm buildings, beehives, corn and sunflower fields, and infrastructure were saved.
