Border police officers from the Border Police Regional Directorate in Kyustendil have found several cannabis fields with a total of 330 cannabis plants in the Ograzhden Mountain in Petrich Municipality, the Border Police press centre said on Thursday.  Two Bulgarian citizens from the region were detained in one of the fields.

The cannabis plants on all fields weighed a total of 757 kg.

The cannabis plantations were in the land-use area of the villages of Dragush, Krandzhilitsa, Zoychene. The cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed.

In total, six fields with 526 cannabis plants were discovered by border police in the first half of 2024 and a total of 1085 kg of green cannabis was destroyed. Six pre-trial proceedings were initiated in the cases.

The Border Police Regional Directorate in Kyustendil emphasized that the efforts against cannabis growing "are not a campaign but a key priority".
