At the end of a sitting that lasted over 14 hours, the National Assembly Wednesday elected Maria Ilieva member of the Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) for a term of seven years. Her nomination was supported by 119 MPs from GERB-UDF, MRF - New Beginning, BSP - United Left, There Is Such a People and one independent MP, while 30 MPs from Vazrazhdane voted against.
After the vote, Ilieva was sworn in before the National Assembly.
BNAO President Dimitar Glavchev presented Ilieva's nomination to the MPs in the plenary hall. He clarified that the nomination was made by the Board of the Institute of Internal Auditors in Bulgaria and he was only presenting it ex officio.
Maria Ilieva has over 25 years of professional experience, of which more than 15 years in the field of audit, financial management and control, according to her biography published on the National Assembly's website. She has successively held the positions of internal auditor at the Public Financial Inspection Agency, auditor at the BNAO, head of internal audit functions at the Financial Supervision Commission and the Energy Ministry. For the last four years Ilieva has been an auditor in a commercial company. She conducts training in the field of audit and control, including as a lecturer at the School of Public Finance, the Institute of Internal Auditors in Bulgaria. She was a member of the 44th National Assembly.
