Measures to ease summer traffic in Kresna were discussed at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the ministry press service said on Monday.
The meeting, initiated by Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov, involved the leadership of the Road Infrastructure Agency, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, and Kresna Mayor Nikolay Georgiev and was convened in response to heavy seasonal congestion in the town.
Minister Ivan Ivanov convened Road Infrastructure Agency executives, Interior Ministry officials and Kresna Mayor Nikolay Georgiev after traffic on the two-lane stretch through the town exceeded 1,600 vehicles an hour, double its design capacity.
Participants discussed installing a traffic light to prioritize southbound traffic and banning left turns, with both measures to be adjusted daily and lifted after the summer season, aiming to maximize flows towards the motorway after Kresna.
Engineers are also assessing a third lane, while construction of the Kresna bypass is scheduled to start in the autumn, the ministry added.
