Leaders of Democratic Bulgaria have expressed serious concerns to their coalition partner Continue the Change (CC) over recent defections within the Sofia municipal council, citing flawed personnel decisions as a key issue. Speaking to the press after a coalition council meeting, Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chair of Yes, Bulgaria, said his party expects CC to present a clear plan for reforming its personnel policy to prevent similar situations in the future.

The meeting was prompted by the departure of two Sofia borough mayors (of Mladost and Lyulin) and two municipal councilors from CC, who claimed they had been pressured by the party.

Bozhanov added that any corruption allegations should be thoroughly investigated by law enforcement and assured full cooperation. He noted that Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev had committed to transparency and pledged that no one would be shielded from scrutiny.

Ivaylo Mirchev emphasized that Democratic Bulgaria's municipal group remains stable and underscored the strict vetting procedures in both Yes, Bulgaria and Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB). "None of our councillors or district mayors are vulnerable to outside influence," he said.

Mirchev added that the coalition partners had raised all pressing concerns at the meeting and now expect WCC to present a convincing plan to regain public trust. He affirmed that the coalition remains united in its broader political goals and serves the same electorate.

Atanas Atanasov, DSB leader, described the current political situation as dramatic and said a path forward must be found. He also stressed that any proposed solution must address accountability for how the coalition ended up in this crisis.
