Deputy Minister of Defence Radostin Iliev opened the annual conference of the NATO Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) which is taking place on June 4. The theme of the 13th edition of the forum is: "Ensuring Continuity in Leadership Activities in a New Security Environment", said the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday.

The topics to be discussed on Wednesday and Thursday are of increasing importance for strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence potential, said Iliev in his opening address, noting that this is especially important, taking into account the growing challenges facing national and allied security”. He stressed the importance of such a forum for sharing scientific capacity and practical expertise aimed at addressing the challenges facing the global security environment.

Deputy Minister Iliev noted that by combining expertise and innovative thinking, CMDR COE has established itself in the family of NATO crisis management and disaster response centres and this conference confirms it. Iliev highlighted the importance of the new initiatives of the Allied Command Transformation, “Information and Knowledge Management” and “Business Continuity Management”, in which the centre has a leading role. The Deputy Minister said that this two-day forum, which brings together leading experts and covers such topical topics, will make a valuable contribution, both conceptually and practically, to efforts to make Bulgaria a more resilient and stronger member of NATO and the European Union.

Since its official accreditation in 2015 the CMDR COE in Sofia has been acting as a place for developing expertise, analyzing achievements and learning from practice in the field of crisis management and disaster response. In this context, the 13th annual conference of the organization, whose principal is the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, will be held on June 4 and 5, the statement said.
