The Yes, Bulgaria party has submitted a report to the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Agency for National Security (SANS), requesting an urgent investigation concerning the Kamchia resort complex, announced by the party’s co-chairman Ivaylo Mirchev on Facebook on Monday.

He stated that the party is demanding an immediate investigation and the protection of Bulgarian national interests and security in the case of the Russian-owned Kamchia facility.

Mirchev explained that on May 31, a new request was filed for a change in the management of Kamchia Resort Complex JSC. Such a change, he said, would circumvent European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia and would grant a Russian public entity direct access to a property located on Bulgarian territory, on the Black Sea coast.

“‘Kamchia’ has infrastructure of national importance. This is precisely what creates a risk of economic and hybrid influence from a country under sanctions,” noted the co-chairman of Yes, Bulgaria. “Once already — in February 2024 — a similar attempt to change the management was rejected by the Registry Agency. Now, however, we are seeing renewed pressure, despite the fact that EU regulations explicitly prohibit such transactions,” Mirchev wrote.

The status of the Kamchia resort complex is regulated by an international agreement between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Russian Federation. The complex is not owned by the Bulgarian state and is not under the management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), as stated last summer by the then caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev during a parliamentary oversight session. He noted that the complex near Varna is owned by a Bulgarian single-member company whose ultimate owner is the government of the city of Moscow.
