site.btaParliament Chair Urges Retailers to Display Prices in Both Leva and Euro to Avoid Price Spikes
Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova told reporters in BTA's press club here on Friday that prices in Bulgaria are rising whether the country adopts the euro or not. She explained this process with "economic processes, perhaps speculation too" and urged retailers to start presenting prices in both leva and euro to make it apparent if prices get pumped artificially.
Kiselova was taking part in a press conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the social democratic political movement in Bulgaria that featured a public discussion entitled "A Future for the Family: Policies to Support Young Parents".
Commenting on Vice President Iotova's statement that a campaign is being conducted against President Rumen Radev and his proposal for a referendum on the euro's introduction in Bulgaria in 2026, Kiselova said tension surrounding the awaited convergence report has been higher over the past days. She specified that she did not necessarily agree with the Vice President and that there was no tension between her and the President.
Asked whether institutions have done enough to make the public aware of the benefits and risks of adopting the euro, Kiselova said that the government has done a lot, however, the government and the central bank's work on the issue may not have gained popularity.
