site.btaBulgarian MP Pledges Support for Bessarabian Bulgarians in Ukraine

Bulgarian MP and Yes, Bulgaria co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev pledged support for the educational and cultural needs of the Bessarabian Bulgarian community during meetings in Bolhrad, Ukraine, Mirchev's party said in a press release here Saturday.

Mirchev met with Bolhrad Mayor Sergey Dimitriev, Bolhrad District Council head Mikhail Sadakliev, and local cultural and school officials to discuss challenges including low admission rates of Ukrainian students to Bulgarian universities under Decree No. 103, small class sizes in Bulgarian schools, and the lack of Bulgarian teachers and funding for cultural programs.

He promised to investigate the low university intake, explore flexible solutions for maintaining Bulgarian-language classes, initiate targeted cultural programs, and clarify with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs how the war in Ukraine affects financial support for the community.
