MPs from the BSP–United Left parliamentary group have submitted proposals for stricter regulation of electric scooters as part of a bill amending and supplementing the Road Traffic Act. “These proposals come as a result of numerous meetings with citizens, experts, and representatives of various institutions. They reflect our desire to ensure more detailed regulation of individual electric vehicles, particularly electric scooters,” MP Bilyana Ivanova said, as quoted by the BSP–United Left press service. In her words, the proposed changes aim to improve safety for all road users.
The BSP-United Left group is calling for a mandatory training course for electric scooter users, as well as registration of these vehicles. The Socialists are also advocating for greater powers for municipal administrations to enable more effective monitoring and enforcement of the rules. The proposal also includes increased fines for violations, along with tougher penalties for habitual offenders. The parliamentary group is also calling for higher fines for parents who allow their children to use electric scooters in violation of legal age restrictions.
