In an address on the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slav Letters, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov Saturday said that May 24 is “the best and brightest Bulgarian holiday - a ray from the past that lights the present and guides us towards the future," according to the Government Information Service.

Zhelyazkov described this day as “a symbol of Bulgaria’s spiritual greatness and the never-ending pursuit of knowledge, enlightenment and progress.”

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to “the thousands of Bulgarians around the world who keep the Bulgarian spirit alive through their hard work, knowledge and loyalty.” He laid special emphasis on the key role of Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad, describing them as centres of knowledge and spirit, “where our language, culture and identity are preserved”.
