Twenty-five chief prosecutors took part in the forum, which opened at the Hungarian parliament. Representatives of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, the European Commission, EuroJust, the European Judicial Training Network and the International Association of Prosecutors also took part in the event.
The Hungarian Public Prosecutor's Office hosts for the second time the annual meeting of the Network of Heads of Public Prosecutor's Offices and Equivalent Institutions of the Supreme Courts of the EU Member States. Borislav Sarafov congratulated the host of the forum - the Prosecutor General of Hungary Peter Polt, who is to continue his legal career as a judge in the Constitutional Court of the country.
The three panels of the Budapest conference focused on countering crimes committed online, the digital transition of the justice system, and international cooperation in the fight against environmental crimes.
During the forum, Sarafov held a working meeting with his Spanish counterpart Alvaro Garcia Ortiz, where they discussed issues of mutual interest. Sarafov highly appreciated the lecturers from the Spanish prosecutor's office, who a few days ago in Sofia presented to Bulgarian prosecutors and investigators good practices in the fight against cybercrime.
The participants in the 16th Annual Meeting of the Chief Prosecutors of the EU Member States underlined the essential role that prosecutors' offices play in promoting the rule of law in the European community.
