The Ministry of Justice and the Bulgarian office of Transparency International will cooperate to strengthen the rule of law and develop good governance, transparency and accountability of public institutions and interest representation. The memorandum was signed on Monday by Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev and the association's executive director Kalin Slavov, the ministry's press office said Friday.
Progress in the prevention and counteraction of corruption, good governance and the rule of law can only be achieved through active joint work and cooperation between the state authorities at central level, local authorities, businesses, the media, academia and civil society, according to the memorandum.
The ministry and the association agreed to cooperate in improving policies and legal regulations aimed at strengthening the rule of law in line with the recommendations of the European Commission, the OECD, the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL). Cooperation will also focus on the introduction of good practices in the implementation of standards of publicity and transparency in interest representation before public institutions.
