site.btaTransport Committee Chair: Telecom Outages Are Technical, Consumers Entitled to Compensation
All issues within telecommunications are technical and have no connection to cyber-attacks, BSP–United Left deputy Floor Leader and chair of the National Assembly Transport Committee Kiril Dobrev said Tuesday, speaking to journalists in Parliament.
Dobrev stated that the situation in Bulgaria is not related to events in Spain, where a state of emergency has been declared due to a power outage. He stressed that the issue in Bulgaria is technical and advised affected people to seek compensation.
Regarding the outage at one of the telecom operators, the chair of the transport committee had already called for transparency and accountability last Friday.
Dobrev explained that the problem then was different from the one that occurred on Tuesday. "I am in regular contact with the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), and they have prepared a report," Dobrev said.
He stressed that it is important for citizens to defend their rights and request compensation. "I encourage everyone to take action. If anyone experiences issues, the BSP–United Left website will provide a form to submit complaints," Dobrev said. He added that this form could be used for both group and individual claims.
Dobrev explained that Friday's incident was caused by a software update that took longer than expected, and Tuesday’s problem was different and affected far fewer people.
