The leaders of the parties in the BSP-United Left coalition on Tuesday gave high praise for the participation of the coalition’s representatives in the governance of the country and declared full support for BSP-United Left chair and Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Atanas Zafirov, who is Deputy Prime Minister in the outgoing government. The party leaders called for left-wing unity, the coalition said in a press release on Tuesday.
Reacting to reports that four parties have simultaneously left the BSP-United Left, the coalition partners clarified that Bulgarian Spring and Movement 21 left the coalition more than a year ago, the Social Democrats Political Movement did so more than two months ago, and Rise Up Bulgaria quit a month ago.
Conversely, the Alexander Stamboliyski Agrarian Union joined the coalition in the summer of 2025, they said, adding that discussions are underway about the inclusion of other parties.
The BSP-United Left has 11 member parties at present. The coalition membership changes reported by the Central Election Commission (CEC) earlier on Tuesday had to be reflected in the CEC register in connection with the coalition’s registration for mayoral by-elections scheduled for February 22, the press release said.
