site.btaGERB Leader Thanks Hungarian Foreign Minister for Hungary Leading Bulgaria's Schengen Accession by Land

"I would like to thank Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Hungarian [EU Council] Presidency for the leadership in the process of Bulgaria's accession to Schengen by land as well. This is what I said during my meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó," GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on Friday on Facebook and published photos from the meeting with Hungary's top diplomat.

The two once again confirmed the excellent level of bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and Hungary and outlined a plan for their further development in key sectors such as energy, economy and infrastructure, Borissov said. Sofia and Budapest will continue their cooperation in dialogue on all topics on the EU and global agenda, the GERB leader added. 

On Thursday, the Council of the European Union decided to abolish checks at the Schengen land borders of Bulgaria and Romania from 1 January next year. The decision was announced by the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council.
