The parliamentary group of Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) will fully support this no-confidence motion because, whatever topic we choose for a vote against this government, it will be relevant, said MECh leader Radostin Vassilev during the debates on the motion of no confidence in Rosen Zhelyazkov’s cabinet for their “failure in the area of fiscal policy”.

“There is no motive, no eurozone [-related reasons, ed.], no excuse that could dissuade MECh that the GERB-Peevski government, supported by There Is Such a People and BSP, must go. Unfortunately, it is supported by Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria,” he said.

“A few days ago, with a 30-day delay, we saw the data published by Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and the Ministry of Finance at the end of May. This data shows a budget deficit of BGN 2.6 billion, and in just a few months, this deficit will exceed 3% of GDP and we will enter into a super-deficit,” he noted. According to him, there are two options: either the budget will have to be updated in October, which will further unite the ruling majority, or the capital programme, which was already inflated, will be cut in order to transfer funds to compensate for the deficit.

“You had unrealistically budgeted for an additional 18.3 billion leva in revenue in 2025, but in the first five months, only 3.2 billion leva more came in,” the leader of MECh told the ruling party. In his words, this budget was created solely for the purpose of entering the eurozone and deceiving a European Union administration that is accepting us for political reasons, but not for economic or convergence reasons.

“If you do not fall with this vote of no confidence or with one of the next votes, because we will not stop, next year [Finance Minister, ed.] Temenuzhka Petkova will propose a tax increase… This budget has false revenues, false expenditures, false inflation, a false deficit, and was made by a false government,” Radostin Vassilev said.
