The National Assembly Thursday terminated the MP rights of Kiril Petkov of the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group. His resignation was accepted by Parliament with 197 votes in favour, no votes against, and 8 abstentions (from Velichie).
Petkov submitted his resignation on June 30. "I submit my resignation as a member of the Bulgarian parliament, I submit it with peace of mind that I am doing something right," Petkov wrote on Facebook at the time.
On June 26, he told a news conference that he was resigning as co-chairman of Continue the Change (CC) and would also give up his parliamentary seat. This happened after a scandal related to allegations of pressure by CC on the mayors of Sofia's Lyulin and Mladost boroughs over public procurement.
"Petkov's MP rights have been terminated, and the Central Election Commission will be notified to fill the parliamentary group with the next person on the list," National Assembly Speaker Nataliya Kiselova said after the vote on Petkov's resignation.
Later on Thursday, the Central Election Commission decided that Petkov's place will be filled by Vassil Stefanov.
