University of Food Technology Plovdiv Hosts International Symposium About Food of the Future

The University of Food Technology (UFT) in Plovdiv hosted a conference on the food of the future, the university told BTA on Thursday. The event was part of the first edition of an international symposium called 3S Concept for Food Future: Safety, Security and Sustainability.  

About 150 specialists participated in the symposium, focusing on the main message that the food of the future will be safe not only for consumers, but also for the planet. The event in Plovdiv was attended by representatives of Bonn University (Germany) and AERES University (Netherlands), as well as guest speakers from leading universities in Portugal, Turkyie, Greece and Bulgaria.

"The forum reflects the growing role of UFT as a scientific research centrе offering solutions to the problems faced by the food sector, related to the sustainability of production and food security", said University Rector Prof Galin Ivanov.

The conference marked the final event of the SafeFood4EU project, which is coordinated by UFT and financed under the Erasmus+ programme. "The main result of the implementation of the project is the developed interdisciplinary educational content in the field of ensuring safe and healthy foods produced under environmentally friendly conditions", concluded Prof Georgi Georgiev, Operational Coordinator of the project.
