The main task of all those who have been and will be involved in education will be not only how much funds should be invest in the sector, but how this funding can lead to better quality, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at a discussion with the academic community focusing on higher education which took place at Shumen University Konstantin Preslavsky on Monday. "I want to turn the conversation to the quality of education in Bulgaria, both secondary and higher education," he stressed.

Teachers' salaries have "gone up since 2018", but it is debatable whether the quality of secondary education has improved four or five years after that. "Yes, we have started important investments, but at the same time we all see that there is no qualitative difference, the progress we expect is not there. And that is why I am adamant that together with the investments, together with the funding, we have to define what are the indicators by which we measure how the quality has improved. We have to plan the funding together with the leaderships - like the one of the new university - so we can move in direction that implies an increase in quality," Denkov noted.

The discussion was also attended by the Shumen Regional Governor Dobromir Dobrev, the Shumen Mayor Hristo Hristov, Shumen Deputy Mayor for Education Svetla Stankova, students and lecturers.
