A man was injured after a car exploded on Saturday morning in the Kyivskyi district of the Ukrainian city of Odesa. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Odesa region has launched a criminal investigation, labelling the incident as an attempted terrorist act.
According to the SBU, the blast occurred on Varnenska Street, involving an Opel vehicle. The injured driver received medical assistance, and his condition has not yet been disclosed.
An investigative team and explosive experts were dispatched to the scene. Authorities are currently conducting a full investigation to establish the circumstances of the explosion and identify those involved.
Local Telegram channels, citing eyewitnesses, reported that the victim may be a serviceman. This information has not been officially confirmed.
The Bulgarian community in the Odesa region numbers over 150,000 people, making it the third-largest ethnic group in the area, according to Ukraine’s 2001 census. Within the city of Odessa itself, an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 ethnic Bulgarians reside. The largest concentrations of Bulgarians are found in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
