Participating in the ceremony on the 146th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Interior, held at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sofia on Saturday, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said the government would continue working while most parliamentary groups supported it. She made the remarks when asked to comment on Vice President Iliana Iotova’s words that the government will remain in office as long as MRF Chair and MRF–New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski decides.
Kiselova explained that with nine parliamentary groups, each wants to appear more influential than it really is. “Since we are partners by necessity, the government and the parliament will continue to function as long as most groups support the government,” she added.
When asked if Parliament would go on recess in August, Kiselova said there were bills that needed to be passed before the summer break. Whether the recess will be taken in accordance with the rules or parliament will keep working depends on progress with the legislative programme in the coming weeks.
She identified two main priorities: Bulgaria’s smooth entry into the eurozone and securing funds from the second tranche of the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Kiselova attended the flower-laying ceremony at the memorial of police officers who died in the line of duty.
