The protests for higher salaries in emergency medical care will start anew on August 30, the Zashtita Trade Union said on Sunday. In addition, tent camps will be set up in front of the Council of Ministers and the Health Ministry.

According to the trade union, the additional resources allocated by Parliament for the pay raise at emergency medical care centres have not been distributed fairly. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Zashtita insists on not allowing the completely unfair and offensive underappreciation of the work of those employed at the emergency centres that was adopted by the Branch Council for Tripartite Cooperation in Healthcare, namely that everyone receive an equal pay raise of 22%. The trade union said it has not yet received a reply to the requested meeting with the Prime Minister on August 31.

On August 21, Zashtita staged a protest for fair distribution of the additional BGN 30 milllion for emergency medical care in the 2023 state budget. Later in the day, the Branch Council for Tripartite Cooperation in Healthcare agreed on a 22% increase of salaries. Zashtita head Krassimir Mitov argued that this percentage will deepen the gap in the salaries between the different categories of workers and differs from what was promised at an August 7 meeting with the Health Minister (an increase of drivers' salaries by BGN 600, of doctors by BGN 400, and of nurses by BGN 330).
