Fifty-three population centres in Ukraine's Bolhrad District are on a list of areas where hostilities are taking (or have taken) place, the Bolhrad District Military Administration said on its website.

By an order signed by  Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine - Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, and cleared with Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development has updated the list of population centres of ongoing hostilities. The updated list includes 53 settlements in Bolhrad District.

There are settlements with an ethnic Bulgarian population among them: Vladychen, Zaliznychne and Vynohradivka (Bolhrad Municipality); Bohdanivka, Hannivka, Yevhenivka, Chervone and Budzhak (Budzhak Municipality); Rivne, Vilne, Petrovske, Kalachivka and Yarove (Bessarabske Municipality); Horodnie and Novi Troiany (Horodnie Municipality) and Kubei.

The administrative reform of July 2020 expanded the area of Bolhrad District and now it has a population of 147,973. Ethnic Bulgarians make up over 60% of the population. The district includes eight settlement and rural municipalities (Vasylivka, Krynychne, Kubei, Horodnie, Bessarabske, Budzhak, Teplytsia and Pavlivka) and two urban municipalities (Bolhrad and Artsyz). The town of Bolhrad, founded in 1821 by Bulgarian settlers in Bessarabia, is the administrative centre of the district.
