MINA (Museum of Immersive New Art) will open its doors on August 29 in Sofia, offering a programme of internationally acclaimed immersive experiences. The schedule includes original productions created by MINA Creative Studio, some of which have already been licensed internationally, such as the Dinosaurs exhibition, presented at the Theatre of Light in Dublin, organizers say. According to them, the project is part of the global Immersive Center Alliance (ICA).
Having attracted over 700,000 visitors in Romania in just two years, MINA brings its expertise to a covered atrium located in the Serdika Center, a shopping mall at 48 Sitnyakovo Boulevard. The visual experience merges iconic art, science, and ancient history through 360-degree projections, original soundtracks, and 3D environments.
One of the centrepieces, Van Gogh – In the World of One of the Most Iconic Artists, presents the renowned painter through 360-degree visual projections and a bespoke sound design. More than 80 artworks, including Starry Night, Irises, and Self-Portrait, surround the viewer, revealing the beauty, anxiety, and genius of Van Gogh. The show is inspired by the artist’s letters to his brother Theo and offers a personal, emotional insight into his thoughts and dreams.
Dinosaurs – An Immersive Journey into the Prehistoric World uses animations and 3D environments to guide visitors through the entire Mesozoic Era (Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous) across a 400-square-metre space with 360-degree projections on all surfaces. Divided into four chapters (Awakening, Explosion of Life, Depths of the Waters, and The Prehistoric Kingdom), the experience features more than 30 species of dinosaurs and marine reptiles. “We’ll witness an exciting moment in the life of a dinosaur family and see the hatching of a baby Pachycephalosaurus (‘thick-headed lizard’),” MINA explains. The show includes educational content narrated in a warm tone, enhanced by music and sound effects. Suitable for both children and adults, it offers a unique way to explore Earth’s history and the world of dinosaurs.
Ancient Egypt – Under the Gaze of the Gods takes visitors on a journey through the mythology of Ancient Egypt. Told from the perspective of Miu, a wise cat, the narrative guides the audience through the legends, gods, mysteries, and rituals of this ancient civilization. Highlights of the technologically presented show include Anubis and the Afterlife, The Embrace of Nut, The Solar Barge, and The Protection of Bastet.
