Bulgarian kickboxers Dimitar Stoyanov and Alexandra Georgieva won silver medals at the World Games in Chengdu, China, on Thursday. 25-year-old Stoyanov was defeated by Israel’s Osaid Jodah in the K1 final in the 75 kg category, losing by a 0-3 judges’ decision.
Georgieva, who competed in the 60 kg point fighting final, lost to the UK’s Evelyn Neyens 13-15. The 21-year-old Bulgarian trailed 2-6 after the first of three rounds and, despite a strong push, could not complete the comeback.
Earlier in the day, Borislav Radulov, the 2019 world champion from Antalya, won bronze in the men’s 63 kg point fighting category.
Stoyanov, Georgieva and Radulov earned Bulgaria’s first medals at this year’s World Games, which feature 34 sports not included in the Summer Olympics programme.
Bulgaria's last gold at the World Games came in 2022, when rhythmic gymnast Boryana Kaleyn won the hoop event in Birmingham, USA.
