Forty-five pupils, 24 from the Taraclia district and 21 from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, spent ten days at the Yastrebino children's camp in Bulgaria.

Their stay was organized with the assistance of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science under Decree No. 103 of the Council of Ministers. The parents of the children covered the travel and trip expenses, said one of the group leaders, Maya Buyukli, a Bulgarian language and literature teacher in the town of Taraclia.

During their visit, the participants learned about Bulgarian history, culture, and traditions. The program, which took place from August 1 to 10, included visits to the Etara Ethnographic Museum, Shipka Peak, the medieval capitals of Pliska, Preslav, and Veliko Tarnovo, the Madara Horseman, the Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet, the Orlova Chuka Cave, and the Basarbovo Rock Monastery.

The pupils from Moldova also met Bulgarian children from Ukraine and made new friendships. According to Buyukli, the aim of the initiative is for the children to put into practice the knowledge they have gained in history and xulture of the Bulgarian people, which is taught in schools located in areas with predominantly Bulgarian population.

“Yastrebino Camp has been welcoming children from Gagauzia and the Taraclia district for years, offering an opportunity for recreation in nature, cultural exchange, and enrichment of their knowledge about Bulgaria’s historical and cultural heritage,” said the Bulgarian teacher.
