Environment and Water Minister Rositsa Karamfilova participated in a high-level interactive dialogue on the topic of "Water for Climate, Sustainability and Environment", the Ministry said Thursday. Minister Rositsa Karamfilova participated in a discussion on the challenges in the water sector in the context of climate change during the UN High-Level Conference on Water for Sustainable Development at UN Headquarters in New York.

Other participants in the interactive dialogue were Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam, South African Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Maryam Almheiri and French Minister for Ecological Transition and Cohesion of the Territories of France Christophe Bechu.

The connective role of water as a contributor to achieving internationally agreed goals, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the 2015 Paris Agreement and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 were main topics of discussion.

In her remarks, Minister Karamfilova noted that adopting integrated approaches to water management planning in the medium and long term is key to ecosystem health and resilience for societies. Emphasis was placed on good practices in Bulgaria to ensure effective coordination and consultation mechanisms in the field of water management at both national and basin levels, including on climate and water management issues.

Karamfilova also presented information on the actions Bulgaria has taken to prepare the country for the 29th Meeting of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in 2024.
