site.btaBulgaria’s Postal Service Smoothly Handles Lev-to-Euro Exchange, Says Outgoing Deputy PM Karadjov
Outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov stated that Bulgarian Posts are handling the exchange of leva to euro flawlessly so far, particularly in remote areas without bank branches. Speaking to bTV’s here on Sunday, he noted that postal security has been reinforced and will remain so for the first six months of free currency exchange.
Karadjov acknowledged that minor issues occur in day-to-day operations, but emphasized that every problem is addressed immediately. In the first 14 days, “Bulgarian Posts” exchanged BGN 63 million, with an additional BGN 47 million already requested to be exchanged in the coming weeks, reflecting growing interest as the dual-circulation period ends in late January. The exchange is conducted at 2,330 locations nationwide.
To meet increased demand, the Cabinet allocated an additional EUR 25 million in liquidity this week, allowing the post offices to purchase euros from their servicing bank and distribute the cash money via armored vehicles to all exchange points.
Karadjov praised the smooth execution of the process, stating that Bulgaria is performing better than other countries that have transitioned to the euro, and thanked the employees and management of Bulgarian Posts for their work.
