In a declaration read out in Parliament on Friday, Vazrazhdane said the Bulgarian State will give Ukraine between BGN 1 billion and BGN 2 billion as an interest-free loan, which will be repaid under two conditions – when Russia pays reparations to Ukraine, or, if that does not happen, when the EU confiscates frozen Russian assets in Belgium. Neither of these things can happen because Ukraine is losing the war and Belgium refuses to touch the frozen Russian assets, since this would mean financial disaster not only for Belgium but also for the entire EU and the eurozone, the declaration reads.
EU leaders reached an agreement on Thursday night to grant Ukraine an interest-free loan of EUR 90 billion instead of using frozen Russian assets.
Vazrazhdane is asking who authorized the outgoing government to make this move when it does not represent anyone, and who will give this money. "The loan is a gift and this money will in fact be given by the Bulgarian people to Ukraine, which is completely mired in corruption," the declaration reads.
Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, who read the declaration to the MPs, said that as representatives of the Bulgarian people, they must look only to Bulgaria's national interest. "Even in the draft 2026 state budget, there is BGN 19 billion in new debt, to which we must add a new, direct gift to Ukraine. This money will be paid by Bulgarian pensioners, workers, and all taxpayers in our country," Kostadinov noted.
