Aristotle University of Thessaloniki became the first university in Greece to roll out the digital European Student Card, Greek public broadcaster ERT said on Monday. More than 4,500 students have already obtained it.

The rollout strengthened its students' participation in the European Education Area. The new service, fully aligned with European Union guidelines, gave students tools that made mobility, ties with European universities and access to academic services abroad easier.

"The introduction of the digital European Student Card is another important step in the digital transformation of our university. We reaffirm our strategic choice to be a university that is open, connected and fully integrated into the European Education Area. Aristotle University will continue to invest in solutions that improve the quality of education and the European outlook of our students," Rector Kyriakos Anastasiadis said, as quoted by ERT.

The new digital card also made things easier for students going abroad under the Erasmus+ programme and other student mobility schemes, by providing a common way to identify them and confirm their student status in all European Union member states.
