The development of cooperation in defence, education, the economy and innovation was discussed by caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bulgaria, Nathaniel Copsey, the Bulgarian government reported on Monday via Facebook.

The sides underscored the excellent bilateral cooperation and the opportunities to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The meeting noted that Bulgaria and the UK are close allies within NATO and work actively to enhance security in the Euro-Atlantic area. The two countries also cooperate within the Coalition of the Willing, sharing common goals to ensure stability and uphold the international order.

The current situation in the Middle East was also discussed, with emphasis on Bulgaria’s efforts to protect its citizens in the region, including the organization of their timely evacuation from conflict zones.

Last week, Gurov held a working meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union member states, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and with the Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, where he presented the priorities of the caretaker cabinet.
