Bulgaria's Erika Karabeleva won a silver medal in the women's 53 kg weight class at the European Taekwondo Championships in Munich on Tuesday.

In the final, Karabeleva lost to the top-seeded reigning world champion Merve Dincel of Turkiye by 0-2 rounds.

In the first round, Dincel took a convincing lead of 10-2 points, but towards the end the Bulgarian, with powerful attacks, managed to equalize at 10-10 before losing 10-12. The second round began in a similar way, and the more experienced Turkish athlete built a solid advantage, which she maintained to win the round 16-4.

In the semifinals earlier in the day, Karabeleva claimed a clear victory by 2-0 rounds over the UK's Jodie McKew.
